Redevelopment of Westhafen docklands in Frankfurt am Main

The Westhafen Projektentwicklungsgesellschaft will redevelop the old Frankfurt harbour known as Westhafen and replace the enterprise zone by new housing and offices.

The former Westhafen docklands covering an area of 120.000 m² are to be turned into a modern urban centre with offices, apartments, restaurants, shops and day nurseries. It will provide housing for 2000 people and 3000 jobs.

At the eastern entrée to the area, the Westhafen-Tower was completed in summer 2003, a 100 m fully glazed, cylindrical, high-rise building with offices. To the west, further office buildings (Torhaus, Westhafenpier, etc.) will be completed in 2004. Here five new buildings open out like a fan towards the river Main, reminiscent of a classic pier. On the Westhafen jetty stand eight new apartment buildings. Four more are planned.
